Weekly Class Activities

There are 26 activities across the term, worth 1 point each upon completion. Only 20 points are kept, so missing up to 6 activities will not affect your grade. Activities are graded on participation, not correctness. Deadline for each week’s activities is Sunday 23:59.

In-Class Quizzes

Four short quizzes conducted during selected Tuesday lectures (Weeks 4, 6, 10, 12). Open book, 20 minutes, via eDimension. The lowest-scoring quiz is dropped, so your grade is based on the best 3 out of 4. There are no makeup quizzes since the lowest is dropped.

Programming Assignments

Two programming assignments, each done in groups of 2 to 3 (same group for both). Grading is by checkoff: PA1 in Week 8, PA2 in Week 13. All members must be present at checkoff and able to answer questions, which will affect the team’s grade.

There is no dedicated peer review. Since teams are small, any disputes should be communicated early (at least 1 week before the due date). Members proven absent or unable to complete agreed-upon tasks may receive 0 marks on a case-by-case basis.

Labs

Six labs across the term, combining individual questionnaires and team checkoffs:

Week Lab Weightage
1 Introduction to Command Line 2% (questionnaire)
3 TOCTOU Race Condition Attack 3% (2% questionnaire + 1% team checkoff)
5 Banker’s Algorithm 3% (2% questionnaire + 1% team checkoff)
9 Ping and Traceroute 2% (questionnaire)
10 Python Cryptography 3% (2% questionnaire + 1% team checkoff)
12 Web Server and Client (HTCPCP) 3% (2% questionnaire + 1% team checkoff)

Each lab is designed to be completable within a 2-hour lab slot. Questionnaires allow 5 attempts; the latest submission is taken. Team checkoffs are due by the Friday after the lab week, 6 PM.

Examinations

The midterm covers Weeks 1 to 6 material. The final covers Weeks 8 to 12 material. See Policies for exam rules and LOA procedures.
